"Animal Based" eating was coined by double board certified Paul Saladino (aka CarnivoreMD). While the concept of animal based eating varies, the basic premise is eating like our ancestors did; mostly nose-to-tail animal foods, focusing on meat and organs with the addition of fruit, honey and raw dairy, which would have also been readily available.
