Chicken Processing Demo
Saturday, September 22nd @ 11am
An educational experience for the conscious omnivore. If you’re ready to take the next step in seeing where your food comes from, this is the perfect opportunity.
In a small group setting, you’ll get to watch one of our farmers turn a live broiler chicken into a packaged product ready for the freezer or dinner table. Demonstration includes the 5 stages of humane poultry processing: killing, scalding, plucking, eviscerating, and packaging.
NOTE: This is a demonstration only, not a workshop. You will get to watch the entire process, but you will not have the opportunity to process your own chicken.
Whether you want to learn how to process your own birds or just want to see how things are done, this is a great place for you to learn and ask questions in a small group.
Mature children, teens, and young adults are welcome with parental guardian (this was a kid's job 100 years ago).
WHY CHICKEN PROCESSING?
With the industrial revolution came a separation of American and her food system. A hundred years ago it was common for everyday people to butcher their own chickens in the backyard. Now this has become a taboo and greatly misunderstood topic.
Because of the horrific slaughter conditions of factory farmed animals, people often think that chicken processing is going to be gross, mean, cruel, and inhumane. In reality, backyard slaughter is extremely quick, humane, and NORMAL.
This ticket includes a ticket to the 9am Farm Tour on the same day. When you arrive at the farm, just check in with your name. You'll also receive an email with more details a few days before the event.
