As a PA, I started Primal Pastures because I couldn't find meat I trusted for my own family. This is it, raised the way I was looking for all those years ago

the primal standard

"Clean" labels are everywhere.
Ours mean something.

Our chickens live on pasture every day — not in barns with a small door to the outside, but on real, rotating, open pasture with fully mobile coops that move to fresh ground constantly. They forage for bugs, worms, and grasses the way chickens are built to, and they're supplemented with a certified organic, corn-free, soy-free feed.

Why It's Different

Most "pasture-raised" chicken still eats corn and soy. Ours doesn't.

01

Pasture + Certified Organic Feed

Our birds scratch for bugs, worms, and grasses on open pasture in addition to a certified organic corn, soy and seed oil free feed. That varied diet shows up in the fat profile — and on the plate.

Primal: bugs, worms, grasses, corn-free, soy-free, seed-oil-free.
Conventional: corn, soy, seed oils, no pasture.
02

No Vaccines or Antibiotics

We believe healthy birds don't need pharmaceutical interventions. Our birds are raised outdoors, under sunlight, which is nature's natural disinfectant. Their environment is optimized for health, not illness.

Primal: no pharmaceuticals, steroids or antibiotics
Crammed into growhouses, vaccinated and treated with antibiotics
03

No Chemicals on Pasture

Our chickens are raised on pastures that are not poisoned by chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. We believe less inputs = better outputs.

Primal: sunlight, rainfall, nature.
No chemical inputs: herbicides, fungicides, pesticides

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our birds forage on pasture eating bugs, worms, grasses, seeds and are supplemented with a certified organic, corn-free, soy-free, non-GMO feed made from organic milo, barley, peas, fishmeal, and olive oil.

We've even replaced inflammatory seed oils in the feed with olive oil. It's what we believe is the cleanest chicken feed available anywhere.

  • Corn and soy represent over 99.9% of American chicken feed by volume. The feed is what gets into the fat. Corn and soy-fed chickens carry a very different fatty acid profile than birds raised on pasture and clean feed — higher in inflammatory omega-6s, lower in the nutrients your body actually wants. Our feed standard represents less than 0.001% of chickens available in the US.

  • Yes. Our chicken is completely unvaccinated. While conventional and even most organic poultry operations routinely vaccinate against Marek's, Newcastle, Infectious Bronchitis, Infectious Bursal, and Fowl Pox, we've chosen a different path. Raising chickens on fresh pasture with a clean diet, sunshine, and clean well water eliminates the conditions that make those interventions necessary in the first place.

  • All orders are vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen immediately after processing to lock in flavor and quality. They ship frozen with dry ice and insulated packaging. We ship Monday-Wednesday nationwide. Orders placed after Wednesday ship the following week.

  • Our chickens are processed with a hydrogen peroxide and vinegar rinse, not the chlorine bleach baths standard in conventional processing. They're then immediately frozen to lock in freshness and quality. It's a cleaner method that achieves the same food safety goals without the chemical residue.

  • Yes, meaningfully so. Because of their life on pasture, our chickens are higher in Vitamins A, B, D, and E, three times higher in omega-3 fatty acids, and lower in saturated fat compared to conventionally raised chicken. The pasture and the clean feed both contribute to that nutritional difference.

  • "Pasture-raised" on most labels means minimal outdoor access, often a small door to a concrete pad. Ours means constant rotation to fresh pasture, every day. All of our coops are fully mobile, so our birds always have access to fresh grasses, bugs, worms, flowers, and weeds. That continuous movement is what genuine pasture-raised looks like.
